New Horizon Ferry Service Ltd. has been operating since May 2000. The company started with one boat, and over the years has grown to five vessels (3 passenger vessels and 2 barges). The original ownership consisted of 4 partners, however two have since left, and there are still two of the original partners remaining. Since 2017 the company has gone through some tough times. Hurricane Irma damaged all four vessels which the company owned at the time. Thankfully, a fifth vessel had recently been purchased just before hurricane Irma and arrived about one month later.
The company was barely able to repair one of the 4 damaged vessels when the Covid-19 pandemic struck. Operating during the pandemic has been very challenging as it tried to stay afloat while also making sure that its staff could take care of their families. The current global economic situation has created new challenges for the business. It has been impacted with higher interest rates on its loans, higher fuel prices, and also higher prices on parts and other services needed to operate.
